DIGMAN RESERVE EAST
Hobsons Bay City Council
October 2019 - May 2020
Hobsons Bay City Council engaged ETP Turf for the design, specification, project management supervision, consultancy, sand, soil and tissue testing as part of the reconstruction of Digman Reserve East sportsfield. Hobsons Bay City Council identify the need to partner with a leading agronomic and sportsfield design consultancy.
The reconstruction of Digman Reserve East involved the stripping of the natural turf surface, reshaping, installation of subsurface drainage, a new automatic irrigation system, a new sand rootzone layer with a durable and sport friendly warm season Santa Ana Couch turf. The upgrade of the eastern sports field forms part of larger upgrade works for the reserve which includes the eventual reconstruction of the western sports field, a new carpark and sports pavilion.
The project came with a number of challenges which required the expert advice, project methodology and practical solutions of ETP Turf’s specialised agronomists and design team. Carefully navigating around an underground fuel pipeline along the northern end of the sports field, the designers and contractors had to work around a buffer zone where no works could occur, along with other fixed site points including the existing pavilion and adjacent road. Additionally, soil contamination issues coupled with the removal of large rocks during the construction of the drainage trenches also created unique challenges for the site’s redevelopment.
Due to ETP Turf’s committed hands-on approach to the project management supervision, weekly site inspections, visitation reports and frequent correspondence, Council were able to keep all of their key stakeholders informed of the projects progression whilst relying on the expert advice of our experienced team who ensure the successful outcome that was delivered on time and within budget.
Completed in time for the Gellibrand Cricket Club to start the new season, Council is delighted with the finished result and have continued to work with ETP Turf on several other sports field projects and designs.
